“I always wanted to design for films.”

Movie set designer Ken Adam (Dr. Strangelove, Goldfinger, Dr. No, Barry Lyndon) was born in Berlin in 1921 and immigrated to London in 1934. In 1943, the would-be film designer became the only German-born fighter pilot to fly in the RAF. 

“To be successful, you really have to put your ego in the background and try to be diplomatic to achieve what you want to achieve. “

This small doc. was originally uploaded on Oct 1, 2008, and directed by Tom Haines. It contains an interview with the famous designer, and his work on Dr. Strangelove. Made in conjunction with Culture Shock media and the V&A Museum to coincide with their 2008 exhibition ‘Cold War Modern’. The original score was composed by Mike Lindsay and represents the minimalism mirroring the Design.

Also watch the this rare 1960s doc. from the Thomas Craven Film Corporation. This for the 2001: A Space Odyssey film. A 1968 epic science fiction film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. A great historical document! The production designers on this film where Ernest Archer, Harry Lange and Anthony Masters … (as Tony Masters).
