“Those whose job it is to keep the record straight ought to be the voice of people, not power.”

With incredible joy, I read today that on January 18th 2015, one of the World’s best investigative (59 films over 44 years) Australian-British journalists John Pilger, financed (£71,805GBP) his upcoming documentary film through indiegogo.com. Pilger’s new documentary called "The Coming War" (TEASER) will entail what Pilger calls: "the unreported story of a new US strategic policy known as ‘the pivot to Asia’. The US is preparing for a new provocative cold war that has every chance of becoming a hot war. Washington has begun to move its main missile and naval forces into the Asia-Pacific in order to surround and ‘confront’ China, whose extraordinary economic rise in recent years is regarded in Washington as a threat to American dominance.” If Pilger’s work is new for you I highly recommend watching: The War You Don’t See” (2010) (FULL FILM) and The War on Democracy” (2007) (FULL FILM) and “Stealing a Nation (2004)” (FULL FILM)Which all three all true instant-classic, extremely powerful, investigative films. With “The War You Don’t See” (2010), Pilger investigated the media’s role in war, and traced the history of embedded and independent reporting from the carnage of WWI to the destruction of Hiroshima, and from the invasion of Vietnam to the current war in Afghanistan and disaster in Iraq. Pilger made the film in tribute to the 300+ journalists that have been killed in the Iraq-Afghanistan war, and ends the film with one of my personal favourite conclusions in Documentary history. This conclusion was at the moment’s of it’s release (2011), one of the reasons I personally started blogging –

  • We journalists… have to be brave enough to defy those who seek our collusion in selling their latest bloody adventure in someone else’s country… That means always challenging the official story, however patriotic that story may appear, however seductive and insidious it is. For propaganda relies on us in the media to aim its deceptions not at a far away enemy but at you at home… It’s very simple. In this age of endless imperial war, the lives of countless men, women and children depend on the truth, or their blood is on us… never believe anything until it has been officially denied said the great reporter Claud Cockburn. In other words, those whose job it is to keep the record straight ought to be the voice of people, not power.”
