About Bart Hendrikx

A creative strategist in entertainment offering a quiet corner of the internet for reflection and discovery.

My name is Bart Hendrikx. I am a creative strategist working across entertainment, media and culture, based in Amsterdam. And no, I am not related to Jimi, although people still ask.

After many years in cities like Berlin, Antwerp, London, Mexico City, Tehran, the jungles of Panama, Antibes, New York, Los Angeles and Malibu, I eventually made Amsterdam my home. Each of these places shaped me in its own way, widening my sense of curiosity about people, stories and the cultures we create together.

What I Do

I work at the intersection of creativity, strategy and culture. My experience spans entertainment, media, music, storytelling, brand partnerships and international production. I help teams and organisations shape ideas, understand audiences and navigate shifts in culture and communication.

Background

My career began in the world of music and live experiences before expanding into film, media and brand strategy. Working across Europe, the United States and Latin America has given me a broad, layered understanding of how stories travel, how people connect and how culture influences the way we see the world.

These experiences taught me to approach projects with curiosity, empathy and a willingness to look beyond the obvious.

How AskTheRightQuestion.org Began

I started AskTheRightQuestion.org in 2010. At first, it was a small corner of the internet where I collected ideas, films, music and documentaries. Over time, it slowly grew into something more. It never followed trends or commercial plans. Instead, it followed a simple rule. If something made me stop and think, I shared it.

Recognition by Vice Media

On August 22nd 2014, Vice Media Inc. selected AskTheRightQuestion.org for the VICE Content Network. This recognition showed that a small independent platform can still matter when it stays honest and consistent. As a result, I felt even more inspired to continue building this space.

What This Platform Aims to Be

Today I still run this platform by myself. I write, curate and publish everything you see here. My goal is simple. I want to offer a quiet space inside the noise of the internet. It is a place with many doors. Some doors lead to art. Others lead to politics, philosophy or technology. Many doors lead to the strange and beautiful ways humans try to understand the world.

If something here inspires you, then I am glad you found your way in. And if you want to share a thought or send something you think I should read, feel free to email me. I enjoy talking to strangers.

Inspiration Behind This Platform

The photograph on this page shows John Perry Barlow, the American poet and essayist. He co-founded the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and in 1996 he wrote A Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace. Because the internet was still new, his text spread quickly. It offered a simple but powerful idea. The digital world could grow into a place for freedom, curiosity and imagination. In addition, his words encouraged people to think in new ways.

Barlow’s ideas shaped this platform in many ways. His writing encouraged me to see the internet as a place for human connection rather than noise. As a result, his manifesto became one of the early inspirations behind AskTheRightQuestion.org. The online world has changed since then, and people use it differently today. However, his message still matters. It reminds me that the internet can offer room for thought, reflection and new ideas. For this reason his influence continues to guide this space.
