“Her guitar playing was a real shock – powerful and modern – it certainly changed a few people’s ideas about gospel music”

Let me take you to back to the year 1964. Have a look at this unique performance by Sister Rosetta Tharpe of Didn’t It Rain. The performance took place at a deserted railway station outside Manchester England, “decorated” as a deep south station with luggage sacks and crates of chickens. A Twisted Wheel Club DJ wrote of this performance: “Her guitar playing was a real shock – powerful and modern – it certainly changed a few people’s ideas about gospel music”. Simply brilliant.
