Incredible Color Video Shows Life in Berlin at the End of WWII

On May 8th 2015, Nikita ventures and Chronos Media released two unique videos on Youtube with truly stunning Berlin WW2 footage marking the 70-year anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. This when Germany’s Third Reich surrendered to the Allied forces. After the end of the war and the unconditional surrender in May 1945, almost all major cities where destroyed in Germany. The Berlin and Potsdam 1945, 30- minute video includes unique, partly unpublished, HD footage in color of a ruined Berlin and Potsdam shortly after the end of the war. Especially impressive are the city of aerial photographs which clearly seen in what has happened to destruction. Have a look at Berlin in July 1945 (HD 1080p color footage) (views 2,558,747 already), and Berlin and Potsdam 1945 – aftermath (HD 1080p color footage) (158,636 views already). This unique footage contains no commentary, and contains only the ambient noise and the silence of destruction. In the Berlin in July 1945 video you will actually see a shot of a huge portrait of Stalin. Keep in mind that indeed just two months after World War II ended in Europe, the Cold War was already getting started. Images of the Reichstag building (Reichstag), the Fuehrerbunker, the Brandenburg Gate, Pariser Platz, Unter den Linden, Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom), Reich Chancellery (Reich), Alexander Platz, the Olympic Stadium, Victory Column, and many others.

  • vox.com: “It’s a scene that shows just how catastrophic the war was for European society. In 1945, the United States made up about 50 percent of the world’s GDP — a staggering number possible only because most of the world’s economies were so devastated by the kind of war damage you see in the video. Though the millions killed in action or murdered by the Nazis could never be brought back, the continent’s economy could and needed to be rebuilt. Hence the massive American investment in Europe known as the Marshall Plan.”

On June 10, 2014, Chronos Media, owned by Konstantin von zur Muehlen (VIMEO) and Nikita ventures made public that they where going to cooperate in the distribution of historical documentaries on YouTube. Chronos Media has access to over 7 million meters of film (historic film footage) dating back to over a century. The films where made in collaboration with Arne Körner.
