“Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

Those where the famous words from Ronald Reagan on June 12th, 1987 (VIDEO) and 9. November 1989 – ”Ab sofort, unverzüglich!” (VIDEO). This autumn the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall will be marked in the German capital with dozens of events and projects commemorating the struggles of the European freedom movement, the Peaceful Revolution and – not least of all – the events of November 9th, 1989. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the highlight of these celebrations will take place on the weekend of 7–9 November with 8,000 illuminated white balloons of 15.3 kilometer frontier that once divided the city will be re-imagined, following the former route of the Berliner Mauer: the LICHTGRENZE (or border of lights). This specific event will be accompanied by a performance of the final movement of Beethoven‘s 9th Symphony – the „Ode to Joy“ – by the Staatskapelle Berlin, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. The brothers Christopher Bauder and Marc Bauder conceived the idea of the LICHTGRENZE in 2011, supported by the Robert-Havemann-Gesellschaft e.V. and developed with the help of Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH.
