Off the Grid.

46 of the 50 American states are on the verge of bankruptcy. Currently 12.8 million (8.3%) Americans are unemployed. The national debt ceiling was recently raised and is now an estimated 14 trillion dollars. More than 49 million people live below the poverty line. Since the latest financial crisis, the confidence in the federal government is lower than ever before. While America is ravaged by a severe recession and the global economic system wavers, some Americans are taking command of the situation by creating an independent local economy. Off the Grid is a film about the creation of new local communities, which clearly differ from each other, but have in common that they have started from a local idea. Off the grid by Director Alexander Oey premiered on March 10th at the Rialto theatre in Amsterdam. No news available yet of distribution partner. Will keep you posted. Update: Film gets published on June 18th, 2012 on Youtube. Watch full doc. HERE!
