“Prophecy no longer feels like a description of the future.” (Book)

In the video above you will see a brief talk from American media theorist Douglas Rushkoff. This about his 2013 book Present Shock. It doesn’t explain the whole book, but it definitely conveys the “gist” of it. Also watch Rushkoff on Stephen Colbert’s 2013 (VIDEO) and 2009 for his Life Inc. book here (VIDEO)For the past ten years Rushkoff has been studying and writing about the world in which today’s teenagers are growing up—a world made of marketing. Douglas Rushkoff has been an authority on the intersection of technology and culture since before the word “google” was anything more than baby talk says his own personal website. Rushkoff also predicted the coming centrality of the Internet (CYBERIA, 1992 – a book initially canceled by a publisher who feared the net would be over by the time it came out); he coined the terms “viral media” (MEDIA VIRUS, 1994) and “social currency” (Upside Magazine, 1996); he forecasted the collapse of the dotcom bubble (SXSW, 1997) and the most recent recession in a 2004 column that later became his book, LIFE INC (VIDEO). Rushkoff even inspired today’s code literacy movement (PROGRAM OR BE PROGRAMMED, 2010). Rushkoff is the author of a total of twelve bestsellers (translated to over thirty languages), the host of three award-winning documentaries like the brilliant 2014 – Generation Like (VIDEO), Digital Nation (VIDEO) and The Persuaders (VIDEO), Merchants of Cool (VIDEO).
