“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” (Documentary)

In this brilliantly made Belgian/Dutch Documentary series called: “Poor & Rich” by a VPRO/CANVAS co-production, Belgian TV reporter Jan Leyers examines how people everywhere cope with the growing inequalities in the world. Each episode takes place in a different city. In Episode 8 Jan went to Berlin. It’s a pretty shocking piece of journalism and paints a very different picture of the mighty Germany we read about. Most shocking of it all is to you find out that the main Food bank in Berlin called Berliner Tafel e.V. (TO HELP) supplies for more then 125.000 people every month. There is a large group of people who even if they work, no longer are able to “survive”. Is this the kind of Europe we want to be? Germany being for a lot of European political parties at the EU staged as a model country. And Berlin, the capital of a country that is admired by the rest of Europe in the fierce global competition because it seems to be the only nation to keep a strong European export position with it’s “sustainable growth" (ARTICLE). Or did former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (current Chairman of the Board Nord Stream AG) already sold Germany’s soul in 2005 to President Vladimir Putin’s Russia with the Nord Stream AG deal? (WP) Or is Germany still a US Colony? (TTIP Deal) (Deutschland ist immer noch eine US-Kolonie – VIDEO) What is the price of our Western success the last 60 years? And is our global so-called ‘Democratic’ run digitalised western society really the example that anyone should follow?
