The Imposter (VIDEO)

Last wednesday I had the chance to see The Imposter with good friend and British director Elizabeth Stopford. I was invited for the screening (with Q&A) at the Courthouse Hilton in London. I didn’t do any research on the film on purpose. I knew it was going to be a documentary, that’s it! And yes folks, immediately from the beginning the film grabbed my attention. The Cinematography from Erik Wilson was simply stunning and the story from start to finish truly fascinating. On top of that I read much later that the film was produced by Simon Chinn himself. Simon produced Man on Wire. The whole doc almost felt like you where watching a David Fincher (Seven) narrative feature. The true story is absolutely mesmerizing. It centers around a young Frenchman (Frédéric Bourdin) nicknamed “The Chameleon” whom assumed at least 500 false identities in only 7 years. In the Imposter Bourdin convinces a grieving Texas family that he is their 16-year-old son who went missing for 3 years. First time-filmmaker Bart Layton (RAW), known from the NG series Locked Up Abroad, uses a slick and mysterious way of directing. Bart used his experience from Locked Up Abroad on this simply amazing true story and the result is mind boggling. Click here for the Trailer. I personally had a chance to speak to the Director after the Q&A and asked him if the film will be screening at IDFA 2012 and It will!! So that’s good news. Besides that I was very curieus why he did’t turn this amazing story into a feature film himself. Bart said:“ I own the rights myself, so who knows! ”. Let’s all hope H. Weinstein gives Bart a call then…….:)  Watch-like-share!
